Chicago went mooey for cows. Cincinnati brought home the bacon with pigs. New Orleans baited the hook with fish. In Corpus Christi, we danced with dolphins. Borrowing from the example of Chicago’s 1998 “Cows on Parade” project, an outdoor art display of decorated fiberglass cows that garnered national attention, Corpus Christi welcomed “Dances with Dolphins.”

Dances with Dolphins was created to involve the community in a project for Downtown that would celebrate the many aspects of this community’s varied cultural environments through a public art project.

Our first shipment of dolphins arrived in early April of 2004. They were stored in the Lichtenstien building until the artists came to pick them up. Monica McLeod, a local artist sponsored by Frost Bank to create Disco Tex, is seen here picking up her naked dolphin before going in to production.




FINale was held May 20th, 2005 to auction these wonderful dolphins. A local philantropic men's organization,The Corpus Christi Mustangs, catered the event. FINale raised $50,000 that will be used for future public art endeavors. We would like to thank those individuals and businesses who so generously sponsored dolphins:
